Each week, Joey, Nathan and Kelly revisit an episode of Animaniacs in the order in which they first premiered. They discuss their favorite jokes, gags, and discuss all the cultural references they can find. Today, Joey, Kelly and Nathan discuss Animaniacs episode 91 which features the segments

Animaniacs News

Joey summarizes some of the most recent news regarding the Animaniacs reboot. A selection from a recent Rob Paulsen interview is read in which Rob reveals that the new series will premiere in the Fall of 2020 and will consist of 26 episodes. Rob also drops some big hints that he is involved in the new series. Rob also confirmed in a recent "Kids React" video that Randy Rogel is returning and has already written some songs for the show. The hosts share their thoughts on the news and while they are very happy that Steven Spielberg is said to be heavily involved, they still find it confusing that Tom Ruegger was not asked to return to the show.

Back in Style

After quickly discussing a "Message in a Bottle" sequence, the hosts discuss "Back in Style" in which we are shown how the Warners were loaned out to different animation companies over the decades when the Warner Bros. studio closed their animation department. The Warners interact and harass parodies of Yogi Bear, Scooby Doo, Underdog, and Fat Albert. The hosts discuss their favorite gags and their memories of watching some of the cartoons that are parodied.

Bones in the Body

Mr. Skullhead is camping with the Warners in the Old West. Before you know it, the Warners take us on a tour of the skeleton by singing a song. This song by Randy Rogel is very catchy, educational and marks the last major appearance of Mr. Skullhead.

Each week, Joey, Nathan and Kelly revisit an episode of Animaniacs in the order in which they first premiered. They discuss their favorite jokes, gags, and discuss all the cultural references they can find. Today, Joey, Kelly and Nathan discuss Animaniacs episode 90 which features the segments "Pitter Patter of Little Feet," "Mindy in Wonderland" and "Ralph's Wedding"

Pitter Patter of Little Feet

The Hip Hippos have a special delivery from the stork! Unfortunately it's not their baby, it's the Brain who mistakenly goes to their house thinking that the hippos are actually the wealthy Rockefellers. The hippos do their best to take care of the Brain whom they think is a malnurished hippo. Will the Brain survive their feedings, hot baths, and overall stupidity? The hosts discuss their favorite moments in this cute cartoon which happens to be the last time the Hip Hippos have their own cartoon segment.

Mindy in Wonderland

Mindy's mom is off to win her "Mother of the Year" award and leaves Buttons alone with Mindy once again. This time Mindy chases a white rabbit into a tree and Mindy and Buttons travel off to Wonderland. Bernadette Peters also returns as a Cheshire Cat. Nathan, Joey and Kelly discuss some of their favorite moments and Kelly shares some of her experiences riding the Tea Cups in Disney World and Disneyland.

Ralph's Wedding

Ralph is getting married... to a giant chicken? That's right, it's the return of Chicken Boo! This is a short segment, but the hosts are still able to discuss some funny gags and Kelly is reminded of "Muppets Take Manhattan."

Each week, Joey, Nathan and Kelly revisit an episode of Animaniacs in the order in which they first premiered. They discuss their favorite jokes, gags, and discuss all the cultural references they can find. Today, the Joey and Nathan discuss another issue of the Animaniacs comic featuring two stories that might just be good enough for the actual cartoon show!

Total Commitment

The Warners break into a board meeting and end up driving Dr. Scratchansniff over the edge and into insanity! They soon realize that they need to rescue him, especially after his replacement, Dr. Bananibal Phrewtkupp puts plaid uniforms on the siblings. Will the Warners rescue Dr. S. in time, or will they be locked up in a padded cell as well?

Mister Director, I Presume

In what looks like a direct sequel to "Hearts of Twilight," Mister Director has run off again and needs to be brought back to the studio. This time he's moved off to France since the citizens there think he's a genius. The Warners are sent on a mission improbable to find him and bring him back. Is this a worthy successor to Animaniacs cartoons featuring Mister Director?

The hosts of the Animanicast discuss episode 89 of Animaniacs. First Wakko stars in "Ten Short Films," then two birds find out they have "No Time for Love," and finally Chicken Boo saves Warner Bros. with "The Boo Network."

News

For the upcoming 25th Anniversary of Animaniacs, we will be welcoming Tom Ruegger back to our show and Sherri Stoner will be joining him! Have questions for either one of them? Send them to animanicast@retrozap.com

The entire series of Animaniacs is being collected on a massive DVD set. All 99 episodes, plus "Wakko's Wish" will be included. To reserve your own copy, go to Amazon.Animanicast.com

Ten Short Films About Wakko Warner

Wakko is the subject of ten short films. Some films are incredibly short and others feel like they could have extended to full length cartoons. The hosts discuss their favorite moments and which segments they feel could be extended.

No Time for Love

A cuckoo bird comes out of his clock and falls in love with a canary. The cuckoo clock bird attempts in vain to be with her. Eventually they do end up living together in the cuckoo clock. Frank Welker voices both of the main characters in this sweet cartoon.

The Boo Network

The WB network is in trouble so Thaddeus Plotz hires Chicken Boo to come up with a new lineup. What follows is an assortment of chicken themed shows such as "Sixty Clucks" and "The Egg Files." This is one of the longest Chicken Boo segments and while it is longer, it's still very funny. Eventually Boo is revealed to be a chicken however after everyone rips his clothes off!

Each and every week, Joey, Nathan and Kelly revisit an episode of Animaniacs in the order in which they first premiered. They discuss their favorite jokes, gags, and discuss all the cultural references they can find. Today the hosts discuss and review episode 88 of Animaniacs!

The hosts of the Animanicast discuss episode 88 of Animaniacs. First the Warners chase after Ernest Hemingway, then the Hip Hippos go on "Amazing Gladiators!"

Commercial Parodies

Flavio appears in a few commercial parodies in this episode. First, a soloflex commercial parody is shown. You could look just like Flavio if you eat Choco Dots! Then we see women flock to a window to watch Flavio drink a soda. Finally we see Flavio show off his "physique." These commercials have some cute moments. The hosts discuss what they liked about them and the connections to the original commercials in the 90's.

Papers for Papa

Ernest Hemingway has given up on writing so when the Warners come to the door with more paper he tries to avoid paying for it. They chase him around the world and end up inspiring him through their adventures. This is a nice segment that has lots of literary references and even a quick reference to the movie "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore." The hosts discuss their favorite moments and Kelly shares a connection to Young Indiana Jones.

Amazing Gladiators

The Hip Hippos go on a "Amazing Gladiators" which looks very similar to "American Gladiators." They face off against an athletic couple in a battle to the finish! Of course, Marita and Flavio are just happy to be there and don't really seem to care about winning anything. The hosts discuss their favorite moments in this amusing cartoon.

Pinky and the Ralph

Ralph and Pinky ask each other what they would like to do tonight. They go back and forth several times and can't decide. It's short and sweet but Nathan and Joey wonder if it could have gone on even longer! Perhaps that would have made it even funnier?

The hosts of the Animanicast discuss episode 87 of Animaniacs. First the Warners become secret agents, then they go on a cruise with Dr. S. and finally they all sing a song all about time.

From Burbank with Love

It’s secret agent Warners in this James Bond Spoof. Yakko, Wakko and Dot are Agents from America helping 0007 stop a criminal mastermind from stealing all the money from Fort Knox.  Of course there are antics galore as the Warners try to help. The hosts discuss their knowledge of James Bond and of Sean Connery. See if you can catch Kelly’s Indiana Jones reference that even Joey almost misses.

Anchors A-Warners

After "From Burbank with Love," Dr. Scratchansniff takes a cruise to get away from the Warners, but unfortunately they are on the boat too!  Dr. Scratchansniff gets more and more injured until he is in a body cast, but at least he ended up having a good time… that is until he receives his bill. This is a funny segment, but do the Warners go to far with their pranks this time?

When You're Traveling

Yakko sings a song about time.  It's pretty educational, but Nathan believes it holds a deeper meaning! Is this the final evidence needed that proves the Warners are time lords?  Only TIME will tell!

The hosts of the Animanicast discuss episode 86 of Animaniacs. The Warners get disingenuous, Buttons saves Mindy from zombies and Wakko can't stop hiccuping!

A Very Very Very Very Special Show

The Warners try to win a humanitarian award by giving as many environmental and health conscious messages as they can in a cartoon. Unfortunately it doesn't work out for them and they act worse than ever! The hosts discuss their favorite moments and how nineties culture became environmentally conscious with shows like "Captain Planet" and movies like "Fern Gully."

Night of the Living Buttons

Mindy and Buttons run through a cemetary full of zombies and Buttons needs to defend Mindy from each one of them. This is a cartoon that breaks the mold of a typical Mindy and Buttons cartoon and has a ending that's really a "thriller!" The hosts discuss their favorite moments and a very obscure reference of "kiss the frog baby."

Soda Jerk

Wakko drinks a milkshake sundae too quickly and can't get rid of his hiccups! The Warners take Wakko all over the world looking for a cure until Wakko's performance anxiety takes care of the problem at a convention of physicians. The hosts discuss their own hiccup cures and how this cartoon is a similar to a previous Animaniacs cartoon.

A Discussion with Audu Paden

The hosts of the Animanicast sit down with Animaniacs director and writer Audu Paden to discuss his background in animation and memories of working on Animaniacs!

Audu Paden

Audu Paden joins us for the first time to discuss working on Animaniacs and the process of animation direction. Audu has a fascinating background growing up in Northern Nigeria as a child and then moving on to animate and storyboard for shows such as "Rugrats" and "The Simpsons" before moving on to "Animaniacs." Audu shares how a good animator "is an actor who uses the point of a pencil to create a performance" and breaks down the complexity of animation fantastically. He also shares some great stories of meeting Steven Spielberg, Mel Brooks, and even a time when he did first aid on Elmo with the supervision of Mister Rogers.

To learn more about Audu's previous work and keep up with some of the things he's working on now, make sure to follow him on twitter @AuduPaden. You can also see some examples of his work on Animaniacs and other shows by visiting AuduPaden.com.

Jokahontas/Boids on the Hood/Mighty Wakko at the Bat

The Animaniacs take on Disney, The GoodFeathers take on Ralph, and Wakko takes on baseball. Plus, some bonus material!  Joey Nathan and Kelly have a great time discussing this week’s episode.

Animaniacs TV Station Press Packet

Thanks to our listener Mike Westfall, Joey managed to get his hands on some of the original material used to convince networks to air syndicated episodes of the Animaniacs. The hosts go through key sections including one dedicated to Steven Spielberg!

Animani-rats? Cold Open

Animaniacs characters star in this farce of The Rugrats theme song.  The hosts discuss all the appearances, and who each one represents. This segment of course leads to a discussion on the Rugrats reboot as well.

Jokahontas

This segment is an obvious parody of pocahontas, but quickly expands to parody the disney heroine troupe and also on Mel Gibson in general.  Joey Nathan and Kelly discuss their favorite moments and how they think it compares to last week’s disney parody, "Cutie and the Beast."

Boids on the Hood

Thaddeus Plotz has offended the wrong Pigeons, so the GoodFeathers take it upon themselves to attack his car in the way only pigeons know how to do.  Ralph the Guard only makes it worse and ends up destroying the car trying to chase the GoodFeathers away.

Mighty Wakko at the Bat

In this adaptation of Casey at the Bat, we get the whole Animaniacs cast trying to win a baseball game.  It all comes down to little Wakko Warner to see if he can get the runs needed to win. Nathan, Kelly and Joey discuss their favorite moments from this segment.

Gag Credits

Joey reads off the gag credits from the last ten episodes.  As if that wasn’t enough, Nathan participates by saying something after each gag credit.

Today's episode parodies the Disney animated film "Beauty and the Beast" with a cartoon entitled "Cutie and the Beast" it also features a parody of "Forest Gump" with "Boo Happens" and puts a new spin on the song "Noel!" Did this fun episode get "5 Water Towers" with our hosts or did it fall short?

Cutie and the Beast

After Dot has some trouble saying her lines, the Warners do a parody of the Disney animated film, "Beauty and the Beast." Taz plays the part of the Beast and Dot instantly falls in love with his beastly appearance until his transformation into a prince takes attention away from how cute she is. The hosts talk about their favorite moments and songs as well as compare some of the shots to the original source material.

Boo Happens

Chicken Boo has an extraordinary life much like "Forest Gump." In this quick parody, Chicken Boo gets to meet a few presidents and achieves stardom until some hippies discover that he's a chicken! The hosts discuss their favorite moments and the original source material, "Forest Gump."

Noel

Wakko has trouble writing a letter to Santa. He thinks that his named is spelled "Santla." What follows is a song talking about Santa's name having "no 'L'" as well as Captain Ahab finding "no whale," and other funny takes on this classic Christmas tune.

They discuss their favorite jokes, gags, and discuss all the cultural references they can find. Today's episode is a very special episode however as the hosts invite Animaniacs creator Tom Ruegger and writer and actor Paul Rugg!

A Discussion with Paul Rugg and Tom Ruegger About Writing Animaniacs

Paul Rugg's Reflections on Animaniacs

He's written some of the most hilarious episodes and songs in Animaniacs, he's also the voice of Albert Einstein, Mr. Director, Mr. Clown, and Freakazoid! Paul Rugg joins us for the first time to discuss how he got involved working on the show, memories of writing some specific episodes, his comedic influences, and his writing process. Paul even shares how he came up with the idea of his viral video that shows him petting his dog Lucky, (who wasn't in the mood to be pet.)

Tom Ruegger also shares his thoughts on why Paul's scripts are so amazing and why Paul is a "comedy genius."

Tom Ruegger Sketches

You'll probably hear Tom moving the table around and making little noises while he talks. Well, Tom has a tendency to sketch while he talks with us, and this time he's shared some really amazing sketches, including one of the Warners! Head to our notes over at Animanicast.com to check them out!

Keep up with Tom and Paul Online

Each and every week, Joey, Nathan and Kelly revisit an episode of Animaniacs in the order in which they first premiered. They discuss their favorite jokes, gags, and discuss all the cultural references they can find in "Wakko's 2-Note Song," "Panama Canal," "Hello Nurse," "The Ballad of Magellan," "The Return of the Great Wakkorotti," and "The Big Wrap Party Tonight."

Wakko's 2-Note Song/Panama Canal/Hello Nurse/The Ballad of Magellan/The Return of the Great Wakkorotti/The Big Wrap Party Tonight

Wakko's 2-Note Song

Dr. Scratchansniff is taking the Warners for a car ride, as Wakko begins playing the same two notes on his accordion.  At first Dr. Scratchansniff hates the noise, but by the end he loves the music! There’s plenty for the hosts to talk about in this segment, and the tune is quite catchy.

Panama Canal

It’s an educational song from Yakko all about the Panama Canal.  As a teacher, Joey is able to help decide if this is classroom appropriate, while Kelly and Nathan discuss what they have learned.

Hello Nurse

Wakko takes the lead in this song praising Hello Nurse for things other than her beauty.  In this song we found out the Hello Nurse is actually a genius, with several PhDs and other flattering attributes. The hosts discuss their favorite moments as well as the similarities to Roger Rabbit!

The Ballad of Magellan

Another classic educational song, where the Warners teach us all about the Explorer Magellan.  The hosts discuss their favorite moments, and everything they know about the real Magellan

The Return of the Great Wakkorotti

The Great Wakkorotti is back but is unable to burp, after losing his voice. Luckily he has a little trick up his sleeve. Music never smelled so sweet in this rendetion of a classic nutcracker song. Joey, Nathan, and Kelly discuss the segment and how it compares to the other Wakkorottis we’ve seen.

The Big Wrap Party Tonight

The perfect song to close out the season.  This song almost certainly has the most cameos of any Animaniacs song, with nearly every Animaniacs character as well as a few Looney Tunes and Tiny Toons Characters. Joey tries to name all the celebrities and Kelly gets excited about one in particular.

Soccer Coach Slappy/Belly Button Blues/Our Final Space Cartoon, We Promise/Valuable Lesson

Soccer Coach Slappy

Slappy has volunteered to coach Skippy's soccer team. Unfortunately she knows nothing about the sport and Skippy doesn't know how to play without getting hit by the ball! Slappy figures out a solution in the end and gets Skippy to really use his head! The hosts discuss this episode despite the fact that they know almost nothing about sports.

Belly Button Blues

Katie Ka-Boom is back. She wants to wear a shirt that shows off her belly button and freaks out when her family doesn't like it. She turns into a monster before going back to normal. The house falls down. Haven't we seen this before?

Our Final Space Cartoon, We Promise

After discussing the bumper segments which feature send ups to "2001: A Space Odyssey," the hosts discuss "Our Last Space Cartoon, We Promise" which features the Warners going up against the AL 5000. The hosts discuss their favorite moments of these segments and what they like about the original movie "2001."

Valuable Lesson

The Warners are being pursued by a very angry Attila the Hun before they are snatched up by the network censors who try to show them why Animaniacs shouldn't be so violent! Attila however comes in at the last moment and helps the Warners out. The hosts discuss their favorite moments and gags in this funny cartoon.

Dot's Entertainment/The Girl with the Googily Goop/Gunga Dot

Reboot News

Joey gives an update on the Animaniacs Reboot by reading a blog entry from Animaniacs writer Greg White from his tumblr page. The hosts discuss the news and give their thoughts on what the animation style might look like based upon his description. This leads into a conversation about the upcoming Thundercats reboot style and memories of the original show.

Dot's Entertainment

It’s an Andrew Lloyd Weber parody mashup!  Kelly tells us all about the segment while Nathan and Joey discuss all the musicals they are familiar with.

The Girl with the Googily Goop

Move over Betty Boop, Googily Goop is in town and starring in this “Found-Footage” segment with the Warners. The hosts discuss their favorite moments and Joey questions why Googily got to have a red nose. Nathan accidentally takes the conversation off the road when he mentions Star Wars which sends Joey and Kelly into a Star Wars tangent. Luckily they manage to get back on topic and talk about Animaniacs again.

Randy Beaman Segment

It’s the last segment of Randy Beaman. Help say goodbye to Colin with the hosts, and listen as they discuss the truth about carrots.

We Have So Many Issues (of Animaniacs Comics)

The Cover of Issue #6

Nathan and Joey talk about this funny and incredibly detailed cover. There's tons of gags to find and the cover leads right into the first story!

Egyptian Conniption

Yakko, Wakko, and Dot visit Ancient Egypt and mistake Cleopatra's palace for a hotel! After some extreme remodeling and general zaniness, Julius Caesar finds his true calling of becoming a chef and creates the Caesar Salad and Cleopatra becomes a headliner at her own Hotel and Casino!

Pun Fight at the O.K. Corral

Wyatt Earp is running people out of town and is being a jerk! The Warners come from the Pony Express to deliver a pony to Earp but he wants the Warners to leave him alone and leave. Eventually the Warners get Earp dressed up in drag and up on a saloon stage. Earp ends up loving it and goes off to Hollywood! Joey and Nathan talk about their favorite gags and Joey talks about the comic reminding him of songs from Spike Jones and the City Slickers.

The Whole Tooth and Nothing But the Tooth

Wakko needs to go to the dentist and is incredibly scared. Yakko and Dot calm his fears by going to the dentist's office and terrorizing the dentist! In the end, all the siblings realize that going to the dentist isn't so bad, as long as there's attractive dentists and nurses to hang out with.

Each and every week, Joey, Nathan and Kelly revisit an episode of Animaniacs in the order in which they first premiered. They discuss their favorite jokes, gags, and discuss all the cultural references they can find in "My Mother the Squirrel," "The Party," "Oh! " Say Can You See," and "The Twelve Days of Christmas."

My Mother the Squirrel/The Party/Oh! Say Can You See/The Twelve Days of Christmas Song

My Mother the Squirrel

Little Blue Bird from the cartoon "Wild Blue Yonder" returns but this time he mistakes Slappy for his mother. This is a very cute segment, with two Rueggers in it and with plenty for the hosts to discuss

The Party

The Warners are having a fancy pants party and just about everyone is invited. Plotz doesn’t want to go, until he hears that “Steven” is going to be there. When guests arrive, Wakko is wearing pants! And Christopher Walken is there. Plotz is not having fun at the party, and is just about to leave when Steven finally arrives… just not the Steven he was expecting. This is a fun episode, and you can bet Kelly was excited to talk about Steven.

Oh! Say Can You See

The Flame is back and this time he is helping write the Star Spangled Banner. Luke Ruegger's appearance makes this the third Ruegger brother to appear in this episode!

The Twelve Days of Christmas Song

Little Blue Bird performs a special rendition of The Twelve Days of Christmas with the Animaniacs orchestra.  The hosts discuss the backstory of this short, but very cute segment.

The hosts discuss each song, and pick their favorite parts of the episode as well as discuss memories of the source material.

Yabba Dabba Boo

Apr 29, 2018

Each and every week, your hosts revisit an episode of the series in the order in which they first premiered. They discuss their favorite jokes, gags, and discuss all the cultural references they can find! In this special episode, Joey, Nathan and Kelly welcome back Tom Ruegger as well as the incredibly talented Randy Rogel who wrote some of the most iconic songs from Animaniacs!

Discussing the Music of Animaniacs with Tom Ruegger and Randy Rogel

Richard Stone and the Orchestration of Animaniacs

Tom and Randy discuss their song writing process and what it was like to collaborate with Richard Stone and other composers working on Animaniacs such as Steve and Julie Bernstein. Randy talks about the writing process and the excitement of seeing a full orchestra perform the songs that he wrote. Randy states that "The music was born at the podium."

Some of the show's musical parodies are also discussed including "Les Miseranimals" which was so close to the original "Les Miserables"  that at one point Tom was certain that they would all get sued!

Tom Ruegger mentions that he heard that the newest incarnation of Animaniacs will continue to use a live orchestra which is very rare in today's world.

Yakko's World

Tom and Randy discuss Randy's first song he wrote for Animaniacs, "Yakko's World!" Tom marvels at the complexity of the song and talks about how it started off as a song involving Yakko wearing different hats of the world and eventually turned into

Influences

Randy and Tom talk about their musical influences. Tom's influences are eclectic and include everything from Rock n' Roll to TV theme songs. Randy talks about his background in musical theater and how it influenced his writing. Randy's performance in "Singin' in the Rain" is discussed as well as how the satirical compositions of Tom Lehrer had an influence on his writing.

Soundtracks and Alternative Lyrics

Randy and Tom talk about the difference between lyrics on the show versus the show's soundtracks. Randy talks about the time his song "A Quake! A Quake!" was re-recorded for the soundtrack "Yakko's World" and how he scrambled over to Tom's office to try to stop his lyrics from being changed!

Animaniacs in Concert!

Randy talks about working with Rob Paulsen and performing the songs of Animaniacs in front of a live audience. Randy and Rob have toured across the country and will have a eight shows coming up at Joe's Pub in New York. Cody Ruegger is also set to appear for one of the shows as well! Each and every week, your hosts revisit an episode of Animaniacs in the order in which they first premiered. They discuss their favorite jokes, gags, and discuss all the cultural references they can find in "This Pun for Hire," "Star Truck," "Go Fish," and "The Multiplication Song!" Joey, Nathan and Kelly go over each segment, as well as discuss Dream Works, Star Trek, playing games alone and math in general.

"This Pun for Hire," "Star Truck," "Go Fish," and "The Multiplication Song"

This Pun for Hire

It’s a tour de force of puns and cameos in this Film Noir Parody. The Warners are on the case from Hello Nurse to find Dr. Scratchansniff, and end up running into Ralph the Guard and Minerva Mink as the plot twists into something else. As the title suggests, there are puns a plenty.  We also get our first cameo from Freakazoid, and another cameo from *gasp* Steven Spielberg! Kelly explains the fast moving plot of the episode, while Nathan and Joey discuss as many jokes and references as possible. Duh, by gad, sir, I claim this segment to be worth listening to.

Star Truck

It’s Animaniacs meets Star Trek, when the Warners find themselves in an episode of their favorite show, Star Truck.  There are so many references to the original show and movies, that there are plenty of jokes for a Trekkie and casual viewer alike. Joey, Nathan, and Kelly go over as many as possible.

Go Fish

Wakko plays Go Fish by himself, but then starts accusing himself of cheating. It’s a great segment, but it does bring up questions of Wakko’s sanity.  Dot might say it best: "I'm worried about the Beaver."

Randy Beaman Segment

It's another story from our favorite kid, Colin.  We also find out what Randy Beaman has been up to for almost thirty years.

Multiplication Song

In a song reminiscent to Tom Lehrer’s ‘New Math’, Yakko explains how to multiple 47 times 83.  It’s more fun than educational, And the hosts have fun discussing their feelings about math

Each and every week, your hosts revisit an episode of Animaniacs in the order in which they first premiered. They discuss their favorite jokes, gags, and discuss all the cultural references they can find! Today's episode features an unconventional group of segments with "Gimme the Works," "Buttons in Ows," and "Hercules Unwound."

Gimme the Works/Buttons in Ows/Hercules Unwound

Gimme the Works

Dot is over the whole tormenting the special friend gag, so the Warners decide to end this segment early.  This is the shortest Warners segment with a title card, so there isn’t a lot to talk about. Still Joey, Nathan, and Kelly dissect the segment and come up with some theories on the writers.

Buttons in Ows

It’s Mindy and Buttons meets Wizard of Oz in this segment!  Mindy chases Toto from Kansas to Oz and back to Kansas, with Buttons hot on her trail.  On the way she meets a witch, a scarecrow, a tin man, and a lion, until she meets the wizard who turns out to be a familiar mouse bent on world domination.  Kelly, Nathan, and Joey have a lot of fun discussing theories and similarities to the original movie.

Hercules Unwound

The Warners are back for another segment… but again they don’t really feel like doing it, So Pinky and the Brain become the focus as they try to steal Zeus’ lightning bolt while Hercules is busy cleaning the stables. Pinky and the Brain manage to get all the way to Olympus but as soon as they reach the lightning bolt it’s thrown down at earth, causing a dam to break and cleaning the stables for Hercules.  As a reward, the Warners return to close out the episode. This is another very interesting segment with plenty of references, and Nathan, Joey, and Kelly discuss all they can find.

Wheel of Morality

It’s the last Wheel of Morality… what will the moral be this time?

Apr 8, 2018

Each and every week, your hosts revisit an episode of Animaniacs in the order in which they first premiered. They discuss their favorite jokes, gags, and discuss all the cultural references they can find! Today's episode features a great way to memorize the names of the presidents with "The Presidents Song." Then Pinky and the Brain return with "Don't Tread on Us." Finally, "The Flame Returns" to tell the tale of Paul Revere.

The Presidents Song/Don't Tread on Us/The Flame Returns

The Presidents Song

The Warners sing about the presidents from George Washington to Bill Clinton in the tune of William Tell Overture. This song is the perfect balance of educational and entertaining. Kelly, Joey, and Nathan discuss their favorite parts.

Don't Tread on Us

Pinky and the Brain are in the year 1776, just in time to swap the Declaration of Independence with the Declaration of Obedience. Unfortunately things don’t go as planned, as Brain gets covered in Ink, struck by lightning, and deaf from the Liberty bell. Nathan starts going off on some conspiracy theory about Pinky and the Brain, while Kelly and Joey both discuss what they enjoyed in the segment. Back to the Future connections are also theorized and shot down.

The Flame Returns

The Flame is back and reading the poem "Paul Revere’s Ride," while we get visual representations featuring cameos by at least one of every main story character of the Animaniacs cast. This segment stays incredibly close to the source material while keeping things visually interesting for the kids.  The hosts discuss their favorite parts and some exclusive information from Tom Ruegger himself about the making of this cartoon.

Rob Paulsen is One of the Nicest People on Earth

Joey reads off some more listeners emails detailing their experiences meeting Rob Paulsen including Joey O. who shared a link to an interview he had with Rob Paulsen. As well as Kristy Sproul who detailed how Rob Paulsen's work in Animaniacs ended up setting her on the path towards Voice Chasers!

Kathryn Page Rundown

Nathan does a marvelous job acting out the last of the Kathryn Page credit gags!

Each and every week, your hosts revisit an episode of the series in the order in which they first premiered. They discuss their favorite jokes, gags, and discuss all the cultural references they can find! In this special episode, Joey and Nathan get to discuss another comic book issue of Animaniacs.  This comes after the hosts had their own issues with recording the podcast for episode 75. But no worries!  Nathan and Joey also find some more emails for our ongoing Rob Paulsen segment, and share their thoughts of the Freak-A-Con.

We've Got More Issues (of Animaniacs Comics)

The Cover of Issue #5

This cover has almost everyone on it, and all the characters are riding a roller coaster, and it has nothing to do with the comic!!! Oh well, Nathan and Joey discuss it anyways...

Not-So-Model Mother

It’s the 19th century, and the perfect weather for a picnic. When Dot finally finds a spot to eat, her brothers pop out of the basket having eaten her food. Before she gets too mad though, they spot an artist literally painting the landscape, and find out it’s James Whistler, a not famous painter. He laments that he cannot afford a model to paint, so the Warners offer to model for free.  Unfortunately when brought back to is studio, they won’t stay still, and trash the place. Things only get worse for Whistler, when his mom comes into party. All she wants to do is have fun, and won’t let her son paint. Luckily, the Warners come up with a plan to have everyone play musical chairs, when Whistler’s Mom wins the game, she finds out she is glued to the chair, letting Whistler paint his now famous painting.

A Wing and a Prayer

The year is 1903, and the Wright brothers have just built their plane, but neither one is willing to fly it. Luckily the Warners are in earshot, and get recruited for the job.  Dot gets sucked up in the propellers, and Wakko immediately crashes the plane. After it gets rebuilt, it’s Yakko's turn, but he accidentally knocks the Wright brothers onto plane, and they fly off in the sunset. Nathan and Joey find their favorite jokes and whether or not they could see this as an actual episode.

The Trouble With Trainees

Plotz has had it with the Warners destroying the studio, so they are off to boot camp with Ralph to learn how to be a guard.  After some initial difficulties, with Ralph getting mauled by lions, and hit with a security gate, The Warners actually seemed to be taking to their training, but as soon as Plotz starts to relax, he finds out that the Warners have barricaded the lot, and are not letting anyone in, no matter what.  That is the last straw and they are kicked off security duty. Is this the best segment of the Issue? Nathan and Joey will discuss what they liked, and what confused them.

Freak-A-Con

Join Joey and Nathan as they discuss the first ever Freakazoid convention and some highlights. You can see the entire Freak-A-Con replay by going to Facebook.com/FreakACon or go to the Freak-A-Con's YouTube page!

Rob Paulsen: One of the Nicest People on Earth

Joey and Nathan read off some more emails from our listeners who share their memories of first meeting Rob Paulsen.
