Each week, Joey, Nathan and Kelly revisit an episode of Animaniacs in the order in which they first premiered. They discuss their favorite jokes, gags, and discuss all the cultural references they can find. Today, Joey, Kelly and Nathan discuss Animaniacs episode 91 which features the segments
Joey summarizes some of the most recent news regarding the Animaniacs reboot. A selection from a recent Rob Paulsen interview is read in which Rob reveals that the new series will premiere in the Fall of 2020 and will consist of 26 episodes. Rob also drops some big hints that he is involved in the new series. Rob also confirmed in a recent "Kids React" video that Randy Rogel is returning and has already written some songs for the show. The hosts share their thoughts on the news and while they are very happy that Steven Spielberg is said to be heavily involved, they still find it confusing that Tom Ruegger was not asked to return to the show.
After quickly discussing a "Message in a Bottle" sequence, the hosts discuss "Back in Style" in which we are shown how the Warners were loaned out to different animation companies over the decades when the Warner Bros. studio closed their animation department. The Warners interact and harass parodies of Yogi Bear, Scooby Doo, Underdog, and Fat Albert. The hosts discuss their favorite gags and their memories of watching some of the cartoons that are parodied.
Mr. Skullhead is camping with the Warners in the Old West. Before you know it, the Warners take us on a tour of the skeleton by singing a song. This song by Randy Rogel is very catchy, educational and marks the last major appearance of Mr. Skullhead.

They soon realize that they need to rescue him, especially after his replacement, Dr. Bananibal Phrewtkupp puts plaid uniforms on the siblings. Will the Warners rescue Dr. S. in time, or will they be locked up in a padded cell as well?
In what looks like a direct sequel to "Hearts of Twilight," Mister Director has run off again and needs to be brought back to the studio. This time he's moved off to France since the citizens there think he's a genius. The Warners are sent on a mission improbable to find him and bring him back. Each and every week, Joey, Nathan and Kelly revisit an episode of Animaniacs in the order in which they first premiered. They discuss their favorite jokes, gags, and discuss all the cultural references they can find. Today the hosts discuss and review episode 88 of Animaniacs!
The hosts of the Animanicast discuss episode 88 of Animaniacs. First the Warners chase after Ernest Hemingway, then the Hip Hippos go on "Amazing Gladiators!"
Flavio appears in a few commercial parodies in this episode. First, a soloflex commercial parody is shown. You could look just like Flavio if you eat Choco Dots! Then we see women flock to a window to watch Flavio drink a soda. Finally we see Flavio show off his "physique." These commercials have some cute moments. The hosts discuss what they liked about them and the connections to the original commercials in the 90's.
Ernest Hemingway has given up on writing so when the Warners come to the door with more paper he tries to avoid paying for it. They chase him around the world and end up inspiring him through their adventures. This is a nice segment that has lots of literary references and even a quick reference to the movie "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore." The hosts discuss their favorite moments and Kelly shares a connection to Young Indiana Jones.
The Hip Hippos go on a "Amazing Gladiators" which looks very similar to "American Gladiators." They face off against an athletic couple in a battle to the finish! Of course, Marita and Flavio are just happy to be there and don't really seem to care about winning anything. The hosts discuss their favorite moments in this amusing cartoon.
Ralph and Pinky ask each other what they would like to do tonight. They go back and forth several times and can't decide. It's short and sweet but Nathan and Joey wonder if it could have gone on even longer! Perhaps that would have made it even funnier?

The hosts of the Animanicast discuss episode 86 of Animaniacs. The Warners get disingenuous, Buttons saves Mindy from zombies and Wakko can't stop hiccuping!
The Warners try to win a humanitarian award by giving as many environmental and health conscious messages as they can in a cartoon. Unfortunately it doesn't work out for them and they act worse than ever! The hosts discuss their favorite moments and how nineties culture became environmentally conscious with shows like "Captain Planet" and movies like "Fern Gully."
Mindy and Buttons run through a cemetary full of zombies and Buttons needs to defend Mindy from each one of them. This is a cartoon that breaks the mold of a typical Mindy and Buttons cartoon and has a ending that's really a "thriller!" The hosts discuss their favorite moments and a very obscure reference of "kiss the frog baby."
Wakko drinks a milkshake sundae too quickly and can't get rid of his hiccups! The Warners take Wakko all over the world looking for a cure until Wakko's performance anxiety takes care of the problem at a convention of physicians. The hosts discuss their own hiccup cures and how this cartoon is a similar to a previous Animaniacs cartoon.

The hosts of the Animanicast sit down with Animaniacs director and writer Audu Paden to discuss his background in animation and memories of working on Animaniacs!
Audu Paden joins us for the first time to discuss working on Animaniacs and the process of animation direction. Audu has a fascinating background growing up in Northern Nigeria as a child and then moving on to animate and storyboard for shows such as "Rugrats" and "The Simpsons" before moving on to "Animaniacs." Audu shares how a good animator "is an actor who uses the point of a pencil to create a performance" and breaks down the complexity of animation fantastically. He also shares some great stories of meeting Steven Spielberg, Mel Brooks, and even a time when he did first aid on Elmo with the supervision of Mister Rogers.
To learn more about Audu's previous work and keep up with some of the things he's working on now, make sure to follow him on twitter @AuduPaden. You can also see some examples of his work on Animaniacs and other shows by visiting AuduPaden.com.

The Animaniacs take on Disney, The GoodFeathers take on Ralph, and Wakko takes on baseball. Plus, some bonus material! Joey Nathan and Kelly have a great time discussing this week’s episode.
Thanks to our listener Mike Westfall, Joey managed to get his hands on some of the original material used to convince networks to air syndicated episodes of the Animaniacs. The hosts go through key sections including one dedicated to Steven Spielberg!
Animaniacs characters star in this farce of The Rugrats theme song. The hosts discuss all the appearances, and who each one represents. This segment of course leads to a discussion on the Rugrats reboot as well.
This segment is an obvious parody of pocahontas, but quickly expands to parody the disney heroine troupe and also on Mel Gibson in general. Joey Nathan and Kelly discuss their favorite moments and how they think it compares to last week’s disney parody, "Cutie and the Beast."
Thaddeus Plotz has offended the wrong Pigeons, so the GoodFeathers take it upon themselves to attack his car in the way only pigeons know how to do. Ralph the Guard only makes it worse and ends up destroying the car trying to chase the GoodFeathers away.
In this adaptation of Casey at the Bat, we get the whole Animaniacs cast trying to win a baseball game. It all comes down to little Wakko Warner to see if he can get the runs needed to win. Nathan, Kelly and Joey discuss their favorite moments from this segment.
Joey reads off the gag credits from the last ten episodes. As if that wasn’t enough, Nathan participates by saying something after each gag credit.

After Dot has some trouble saying her lines, the Warners do a parody of the Disney animated film, "Beauty and the Beast." Taz plays the part of the Beast and Dot instantly falls in love with his beastly appearance until his transformation into a prince takes attention away from how cute she is. The hosts talk about their favorite moments and songs as well as compare some of the shots to the original source material.
Chicken Boo has an extraordinary life much like "Forest Gump." In this quick parody, Chicken Boo gets to meet a few presidents and achieves stardom until some hippies discover that he's a chicken! The hosts discuss their favorite moments and the original source material, "Forest Gump."
Wakko has trouble writing a letter to Santa. He thinks that his named is spelled "Santla." What follows is a song talking about Santa's name having "no 'L'" as well as Captain Ahab finding "no whale," and other funny takes on this classic Christmas tune.

Each and every week, Joey, Nathan and Kelly revisit an episode of Animaniacs in the order in which they first premiered. They discuss their favorite jokes, gags, and discuss all the cultural references they can find in "Wakko's 2-Note Song," "Panama Canal," "Hello Nurse," "The Ballad of Magellan," "The Return of the Great Wakkorotti," and "The Big Wrap Party Tonight."
Dr. Scratchansniff is taking the Warners for a car ride, as Wakko begins playing the same two notes on his accordion. At first Dr. Scratchansniff hates the noise, but by the end he loves the music! There’s plenty for the hosts to talk about in this segment, and the tune is quite catchy.
It’s an educational song from Yakko all about the Panama Canal. As a teacher, Joey is able to help decide if this is classroom appropriate, while Kelly and Nathan discuss what they have learned.
Wakko takes the lead in this song praising Hello Nurse for things other than her beauty. In this song we found out the Hello Nurse is actually a genius, with several PhDs and other flattering attributes. The hosts discuss their favorite moments as well as the similarities to Roger Rabbit!
Another classic educational song, where the Warners teach us all about the Explorer Magellan. The hosts discuss their favorite moments, and everything they know about the real Magellan
The Great Wakkorotti is back but is unable to burp, after losing his voice. Luckily he has a little trick up his sleeve. Music never smelled so sweet in this rendetion of a classic nutcracker song. Joey, Nathan, and Kelly discuss the segment and how it compares to the other Wakkorottis we’ve seen.
The perfect song to close out the season. This song almost certainly has the most cameos of any Animaniacs song, with nearly every Animaniacs character as well as a few Looney Tunes and Tiny Toons Characters. Joey tries to name all the celebrities and Kelly gets excited about one in particular.

Slappy figures out a solution in the end and gets Skippy to really use his head! The hosts discuss this episode despite the fact that they know almost nothing about sports.
Katie Ka-Boom is back. She wants to wear a shirt that shows off her belly button and freaks out when her family doesn't like it. She turns into a monster before going back to normal. The house falls down. Haven't we seen this before?
After discussing the bumper segments which feature send ups to "2001: A Space Odyssey," the hosts discuss "Our Last Space Cartoon, We Promise" which features the Warners going up against the AL 5000. The hosts discuss their favorite moments of these segments and what they like about the original movie "2001."
The Warners are being pursued by a very angry Attila the Hun before they are snatched up by the network censors who try to show them why Animaniacs shouldn't be so violent! Attila however comes in at the last moment and helps the Warners out. The hosts discuss their favorite moments and gags in this funny cartoon.

Joey gives an update on the Animaniacs Reboot by reading a blog entry from Animaniacs writer Greg White from his tumblr page. The hosts discuss the news and give their thoughts on what the animation style might look like based upon his description. This leads into a conversation about the upcoming Thundercats reboot style and memories of the original show.
It’s an Andrew Lloyd Weber parody mashup! Kelly tells us all about the segment while Nathan and Joey discuss all the musicals they are familiar with.
Move over Betty Boop, Googily Goop is in town and starring in this “Found-Footage” segment with the Warners. The hosts discuss their favorite moments and Joey questions why Googily got to have a red nose. Nathan accidentally takes the conversation off the road when he mentions Star Wars which sends Joey and Kelly into a Star Wars tangent. Luckily they manage to get back on topic and talk about Animaniacs again.
It’s the last segment of Randy Beaman. Help say goodbye to Colin with the hosts, and listen as they discuss the truth about carrots.

Egyptian Conniption
Yakko, Wakko, and Dot visit Ancient Egypt and mistake Cleopatra's palace for a hotel! After some extreme remodeling and general zaniness, Julius Caesar finds his true calling of becoming a chef and creates the Caesar Salad and Cleopatra becomes a headliner at her own Hotel and Casino!
Wyatt Earp is running people out of town and is being a jerk! The Warners come from the Pony Express to deliver a pony to Earp but he wants the Warners to leave him alone and leave. Eventually the Warners get Earp dressed up in drag and up on a saloon stage. Earp ends up loving it and goes off to Hollywood! Joey and Nathan talk about their favorite gags and Joey talks about the comic reminding him of songs from Spike Jones and the City Slickers.
Wakko needs to go to the dentist and is incredibly scared. Yakko and Dot calm his fears by going to the dentist's office and terrorizing the dentist! In the end, all the siblings realize that going to the dentist isn't so bad, as long as there's attractive dentists and nurses to hang out with.

They discuss their favorite jokes, gags, and discuss all the cultural references they can find in "My Mother the Squirrel," "The Party," "Oh! " Say Can You See," and "The Twelve Days of Christmas."
Little Blue Bird from the cartoon "Wild Blue Yonder" returns but this time he mistakes Slappy for his mother. This is a very cute segment, with two Rueggers in it and with plenty for the hosts to discuss
The Warners are having a fancy pants party and just about everyone is invited. Plotz doesn’t want to go, until he hears that “Steven” is going to be there. When guests arrive, Wakko is wearing pants! And Christopher Walken is there. Plotz is not having fun at the party, and is just about to leave when Steven finally arrives… just not the Steven he was expecting. This is a fun episode, and you can bet Kelly was excited to talk about Steven.
The Flame is back and this time he is helping write the Star Spangled Banner. Luke Ruegger's appearance makes this the third Ruegger brother to appear in this episode!
Little Blue Bird performs a special rendition of The Twelve Days of Christmas with the Animaniacs orchestra. The hosts discuss the backstory of this short, but very cute segment.

Each and every week, your hosts revisit an episode of the series in the order in which they first premiered. They discuss their favorite jokes, gags, and discuss all the cultural references they can find! In this special episode, Joey, Nathan and Kelly welcome back Tom Ruegger as well as the incredibly talented Randy Rogel who wrote some of the most iconic songs from Animaniacs!
Tom and Randy discuss their song writing process and what it was like to collaborate with Richard Stone and other composers working on Animaniacs such as Steve and Julie Bernstein. Randy talks about the writing process and the excitement of seeing a full orchestra perform the songs that he wrote. Randy states that "The music was born at the podium."
Some of the show's musical parodies are also discussed including "Les Miseranimals" which was so close to the original "Les Miserables" that at one point Tom was certain that they would all get sued!
Tom Ruegger mentions that he heard that the newest incarnation of Animaniacs will continue to use a live orchestra which is very rare in today's world.
Tom and Randy discuss Randy's first song he wrote for Animaniacs, "Yakko's World!" Tom marvels at the complexity of the song and talks about how it started off as a song involving Yakko wearing different hats of the world and eventually turned into
Randy and Tom talk about their musical influences. Tom's influences are eclectic and include everything from Rock n' Roll to TV theme songs. Randy talks about his background in musical theater and how it influenced his writing. Randy's performance in "Singin' in the Rain" is discussed as well as how the satirical compositions of Tom Lehrer had an influence on his writing.
Randy and Tom talk about the difference between lyrics on the show versus the show's soundtracks. Randy talks about the time his song "A Quake! A Quake!" was re-recorded for the soundtrack "Yakko's World" and how he scrambled over to Tom's office to try to stop his lyrics from being changed!
Randy talks about working with Rob Paulsen and performing the songs of Animaniacs in front of a live audience. Randy and Rob have toured across the country and will have a eight shows coming up at Joe's Pub in New York. Cody Ruegger is also set to appear for one of the shows as well! Plus, Animaniacs creator Tom Ruegger stops by to tell us about the upcoming Freak-A-Con, a virtual convention for Freakazoid fans!
Special guest, Tom Ruegger stops by quickly to let us know about the upcoming event on March 15th, The Freak-A-Con! The Freak-A-Con is a virtual convention that will take place LIVE on Facebook on March 15th at 5:00 PM PST. The Warners are bigger than Jesus, or rather just as big as the Beatles, in this parody of the Beatles classic movie, A Hard Day’s Night. We even get two Beatles parody songs as the Warners try to escape their relentless fans at the cartoon convention, only to be saved at the last minute by a cameo from none other than former castmates, Pinky and The Brain. Nathan, Kelly, and Joey discuss their experience with the Beatles movies, comic-cons in general, and about the moral of Beauty and the Beast, as they try to stay on topic of the Animaniacs.
Slappy needs a break, and is excited to start her long awaited vacation from violence. Unfortunately, Skippy is excited to see all the MEGA stars in their MEGA action films, and drags Slappy along. Somehow, Slappy ends up being directly involved in about a dozen different classic 90’s action films, each time getting great praise from Skippy, until even Skippy has to admit that Slappy needs a vacation. Joey, Nathan, and Kelly talk about as many different celebrity caricatures and movie references as possible and about each of their favorite moments and gags from the cartoon.
The Warners may be giving us what we may need most... a life. This meta cartoon is all about those fans that sincerely care about all the trivial facts that Animaniacs has to offer, (pretty much all the things we talk about in this podcast…) but the Warners are here to help! Any fan who gets a little too obsessed is brought back to reality with a nice blow to the head with a mallet, and if that doesn’t work, we get to see our favorite parody dinosaur, Baloney! This segment definitely hits a little too close to home for the hosts, but at least Kelly gets to talk about a Spielberg reference.
